In fulfillment of its vision of making learning interesting to youth and promoting sound education - Initiative for Sound Education, Relationship & Health (ISERH) added another educating and healthy competition program to its list as it unveiled I-SPELLING BEE AND WORD SEARCH COMPETITION on Thursday 9th March, 2017. Sound education begets great nation that is why the city of Ilesa in Osun state wore an educative garment during the maiden edition of I-SPELLING BEE AND WORD SEARCH COMPETITION for public and private high schools, held at the Muslim Comprehensive College, Ilesa. 40 High Schools’ students who emerged the Best Spellers in their various’ schools’ Spelling Competition represented 20 High Schools, both private and public, from 3 Local Government Areas of Osun State – Oriade, Ilesa West and East, participated in the grand finale of the competition where the winner of the competition emerged as the ISERH 2017 BEST SPELLER OF THE YEAR.

I-SPELLING BEE AND WORD SEARCH COMPETITION is a competition in which contestants are asked to spell a broad selection of words, usually with a different degree of difficulty within a stipulated time and could as well be asked, collectively, to search for a word in the dictionary within a time frame. It originated from the meaning of assembly (bees are noted for collective work) of spellers. It is introduced by ISERH to: create enthusiasm in learners through searching for arrays of words in the process of preparing for and winning the competition;redirect the interest of high school students and youth at large from cultism and other social vices to a more fun, educating and rewarding competition that translates to better learning. It is as well designed to help improve the vocabularies of students and help reduce the negative impacts of words shortening they grow accustomed to via the use of social media – which then impact on their SSCE/UTME English Language and other subjects’ results.

We hope that this competition is a challenge on every participating school and those who couldn’t participate this year to buckle up for the 2018 edition that promises to be superb and accommodate more Local Governments within the State. We commend all the participating schools and their students for giving their students the opportunity of subjecting their spelling knowledge to a test and we commend the courage of the participants. We hope that some of you that would still be in participating classes (SS 1 & 2) by 2018 would prepare yourself to defeat other contestants in your schools with the motive of representing your schools at the Local Government Levels and State Level.
