Vote Not Fight: Peace Building as a Motivating Factor

Peace is very central to the social well being of a nation. It forms the basis for human capital development. No nation can thrive unless peace reigns in different sectors of the nation. However, this is something that has regrettably be a mirage, though not in its entirety but it has become a feat we crave to achieve day by day. This should not be the case.

In places where the guns are silent, there is still some form of conflicts going on in many homes, which is obviously going to have negative effects on the future of society and spark more wars and conflicts in the community. Some of the problems we face in this country are as a result of lack of peace. Look at the herders farmers crisis; it is a clear effect of absence of peace. We shall not delve into that as this is not the focus of this writeup.

Conflicts have taken away many innocent souls that the Creator has blessed us with, minds that have unique potentials capable of transforming the society; but our predisposition of not embracing peace has cut short their dreams and deprived the larger society of their untapped resources. Conflict creates more problems more than it can solve; it is not a means to an end, it is an end in itself – a tragic end. It is a big factor contributing to revenge, which is one of the biggest hindrances to peace.

Peace has many benefits if we give it a chance, and it is far more favourable option than fighting. Positive development will permeate all strategic developmental areas if we can only embrace peace across various facets. Though this might be quite difficult to attain but it is achievable. The Youth have a crucial role in making, building and sustaining peace in the society.

Election in Nigeria has always been characterised by different anomalies; some perpetrated by the politicians and some artificially created by the electorates. All these actions and inactions send peace on a temporal exile thereby giving room for conflicts which could lead to anarchy. Any form of violence, even in its lowest form, can be a huge hindrance to peace, and that is why we must detest it in order to preserve peace and the lives of millions of innocent people. We cannot afford to have peace on vacation in our community; this is to our peril.

I therefore enjoin all, most especially Youths in the State of Osun to embrace peace by all means, even as we approach the gubernatorial elections in the state as it is for the betterment and collective well being of all and sundry in the State.
