KDI, VARCE AND ISERH IN PARTNERSHIP TO IMPLEMENT VOTE NOT FIGHT CAMPAIGN IN THE STATE OF OSUN


Vote Not Fight Campaign is the project of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in partnership with Youngstars Development Initiative (YDI) and 2Baba Foundation. It is a campaign targeted at having hitch-free and peaceful elections in our country. As the State of Osun prepares for her Gubernatorial elections. Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) has been awarded the project and serves as the coordinating organisation for Osun State in general and Osun Central Senatorial District. Initiative for Sound Education Relationship & Health (ISERH) is the coordinating organisation for Osun East Senatorial District while VARCE is in charge of Osun West Senatorial District.

ISERH TEAM at the #VoteNotFight Campaign

ISERH Programs Director, Abimbola Aderanti who doubles as the appointed coordinator for Osun East Senatorial District led all the coordinators of 11 Local Government Areas (including Ife-Modakeke Area District Office) under ISERH’s coordination to join other 20 LGAs Coordinators, Senatorial Districts Coordinators, KDI Officials, and teams from NDI and YDI, for a 3-day Project Startup Retreat held at Osogbo between Monday 25th and Wednesday 27th, 2018. Other ISERH team who were in attendance include: Isiaq Akinwole – ABC Project Director, Saheed Olayemi - M&E Officer, Temiope Sally – Vocational Director, and Adeola Haastrup – Health Programs Director; each of them serving as a coordinator for their respective LGA.

The retreat served as an eye opener to the participants as the project is seen as a right step in the right direction and at the right time. Femi Olanipekun of RAVE FM moderated the retreat that had in attendance, representatives of INEC, NSCDC, Nigeria Police, NOA and other Paramilitaries and Agencies.

The retreat addressed major issues ranges from Political and Security Threat Analysis of Osun State – delivered by Dare Adeoye; an Overview of VoteNotFight – anchoredd by Adaje Sunday of YDI; Bem Aga of NDI introduced the participants to Basics of Advocacy, Overview of Nigerian's Electoral Legal Framework, Electoral Act & INEC guidelines. Timipanipre Uge of NDI discussed Election Day Processes & Procedures, while Adebisi facilitated Development Benchmarks for Inclusion and Diversity for the Campaign. Awelewa and Abimbola of NIGWARD took the participants through Effective Mobilization Process and shared ideas and their experiences garnered from implementing similar project for the upcoming Ekiti State elections.

Concluding the 3-day retreat, Umar Dan, the Executive Director of Youth Emancipation for the Society and Convener of the 2015 Kogi Youth Agenda, provided a guide to the participants on identifying major problems in the state and proffering solutions which was tagged OsunTiAfe, an agenda for the youth of Osun to be presented to the state government for implementation.
